News Round Up: Magic Kyun anime, KamiKiss OVA and more!



Multimedia project, Magic Kyun Renaissance Project, is being animated. Here's the synopsis:
A world where art becomes magic. In this world, people who can inspire passion with their Magic Arts are called Artistas, and are employed in show business. In Hoshinomori Private Magical Arts High School, where Artistas are taught, a strange new student named Ohana Aigasaki transfers into the school. 
Ohana is placed on the planning committee for the school's yearly Hoshinomori Summer Festa cultural festival. She spends her romantic school life with six other boys who aim to become entertainers in the future. 
Each of the boys specializes in his own Arts, and aims to make Hoshi Fes a success. In addition, the boys also aim to be chosen alongside Ohana as the school's Artista Prince and Princess, only chosen once a year.

Kamisama Hajimemashita's Volume 25.5 fan book will be bundled with new OVA, Kamisama, Kekkon Zenya (The God's Night Before Marriage) and a 32- page manga special Sono Ato no Futari (The Two After That). The OVA is set when Nanami's high school and temple graduation draws near. It will ship out on December 25. From MAL.


Hakuouki gets another concert musical with an all-new story, titled Musical Hakuouki Haku-Myu Live 2. It will run from August 12-13 and August 16-17. The first performance ran in 2014. It is not part of the main numbered stage musicals in the set which is now on it's seventh installment. The performance is more of a concert with audience holding glowsticks. More info on ANN.


The North American manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment commissioned the Alice in the Country of Hearts mangaka Mamenosuke Fujimaru to create with Ryo Maruya, an original manga series, Captive Hearts of Oz. The English manga will have an otome game-style and will be released in January 31, 2017. Here's the synopsis:
Dorothy Gale, along with her beloved dog Toto, finds herself whisked away by a tornado to the mysterious land of Oz. Something about this strange place feels oddly familiar, but Dorothy just wants to go home. Following the advice of a kindly Witch, Dorothy must travel to the Emerald City and seek out the Wizard of Oz, who alone has the power to send her back to her world. 
Alongside a trio of fascinating new companions, and a mysterious young man known as "Zero," Dorothy must follow the Yellow Brick Road on her journey to escape Oz and some of its less than friendly denizens, the evil Witches. Yet even though all this seems to be happening for the first time, Dorothy feels as if they have all met before... Buried secrets and conflicted romance await Dorothy as she travels through the wonderful land of Oz!

Kiss Him, Not Me wins Best Shojo Manga in the 40th annual Kodansha Manga Awards besting Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai, Say "I love you"., Nijiro Days and First Love Monster. More info on ANN.



Here's two more princes from the upcoming Scarlet Heart: Goryeo. Ji-soo, the youngest prince who's sweet, loved by all and is into martial arts. Meanwhile Nam Joo-hyul is refined, sophisticated and elegant. The kdrama sageuk will air every Mondays and Tuesdays starting August 29. More info on dramabeans.

    I'm not completely sure if you've already mentioned this but an anime called B-Project: Kodō Ambitious is airing on July 2nd which I think is a reverse harem.

      When I first saw B-Project the synopsis didn't mention the heroine so I dismissed it as just an idol anime. If it wasn't for you, I will not double check it.

7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy anime-12 episodes- based on a light novel  Rishe Irmgard Weitzner is now on her 7th life after always being killed in one way or another by Prince Arnold Hein. But on the 7th time loop, her enemy has taken an interest in her. This is a mix of my first impression here on the blog, mini-impressions, and mini-review from Patreon. And with some new insights.  7th Time Loop is entertaining and exciting.  It makes you think of the possibilities and the interconnections.  Her past six lives were summarized without being long-winded but just enough to pique our curiosity. Anime Review: Kiskis! My Boyfriends are Mint Candies!

Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. Oh back to back Chinese reviews after The Flame's Daughter. Is China going to be booming with reverse harem now?

Manga Review: Anyway, I'm Falling In Love With You Vol. 1

    Anyway, I'm Falling In Love With You Vol. 1 by Haruka Mitsui Mizuho grew up with her friends in Koigama Highland. The springtime of her youth awaits her as she turns seventeen. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided through Netgalley. Her childhood friends are Shuugo, the sharp-tongued bookworm; Shin, her study buddy; Kizuki, the baby of the group from the swimming team and stylish Airu. At first, I thought it was two flowers as I'd breezed through it in one sitting. (Only 1 or two guys after her. Drama Review: I Have Three Boyfriends

  I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes  The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma.  This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW,  My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director.   It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt.   The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with  15 minutes runtime per episode.  This is the last of my backlog reviews from a couple of years ago. Levels of Reverse Harem

  The video above is Levels of Reverse Harem version 2 (also posted  here ) Reverse Harem titles were very limited when I first started the blog eleven years ago. I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. Let's start with the classification of reverse harem-ness. This is for my sake too if in case I run off course again. 1. Five Flowers - This is literally reverse harem. The heroine has a harem of her own in her inner chamber. And we only have one example for this, manga and drama, Ooku. UPDATE: Please check STAGES OF REVERSE HAREM for more examples.

Manga Review: Futei de Furachi na Ani desu ga

  Futei de Furachi na Ani desu ga (My Handsome Brothers) by Yuki Shiraishi  5 chapters (complete) Ayumu feels like a goose with her clingy and school's popular Shiratora brothers. Only 1 chapter is available so far. I wonder if the scanlators meant duckling. Anyway, the animal reference is not something new since it's from the same mangaka who wrote other two reverse harems: Ookamidomo no Shitsukekata (wolves) and Bokura no Himitsu wo Kyouyuu shiyou ka  (animal love story) . I don't remember really liking her art before but I sure do now.
