Drama Review: Was it Love? ~ Don't ask me I don't know anymore

No Ae Jung is a single mom and a film producer. She finds herself waist-deep in debt and her only way to pay it back is to produce a movie. And on top of that, these four men will make her life more complicated. There's the PE teacher, the loan shark, the writer, and the actor. And one of the guys is possibly the father of her daughter.

It started off strong (check First Impression eps. 1-4) but as predicted I got bored when it's evident you know how the story will end before it even passed the halfway mark. Heck, it was already obvious from the start. The only thing that is making me come back is the cliffhangers. Still, it is feel-good and entertaining with endearing moments. The Korean version of Dreams is a great song choice. It sets an over-all happy mood.

It is four flowers alright (multiple men after her, see Levels of Reverse Harem) but it seems forced. They were just keen on the idea of an older F4 trope and decided to make a story from there. Although it can get away with the impossibilities of having all four guys interested in her it doesn't stop there. Brace yourself for a whole lot of coincidences. The drama could live without the fourth guy. He was just there to fill the fourth spot and the requirement for the climax.

There's also a big disconnect for me from the reverse harem theme it used to dangle like a carrot and from what the actual storyline is. I'll give it credit for still making a believable explanation amidst all the implausible but we have to go through the mess first. This reverse harem drama reverse-engineered itself with this end in mind. Now how can we make this simple story look like it's complicated?

No favorite character. Maybe the heroine. I like her spunk. Even if you want to root for the other guys the story is doing everything not to get you emotionally invested with the other guys. I was more smitten by the sweet and colorful flashbacks with a certain someone than with their present storyline.

I was on a roll with positive first impressions. This is my first disappointment for the year. Some good things never last. Was it Love? Really? I don't know. It has an addicting appeal but at the end of the day, you want something that makes sense. But okay, that final scene was perfect.

Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma. This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW, My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director. It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt. The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with 15 minutes runtime per episode. Anime Review: Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA and Kako-Hen

Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA It consists of two 15-minute-ish episodes. The first episode is based on the manga while the second one is an original story. In the first episode, Tomoe is keeping a secret from Nanami, while in the second episode Tomoe and Nanami go on a trip. It's just appetizers so I recommend watching this first before the main course which is Kako Hen. Kamisama Hajimemashita Kako Hen- ( Kamisama Kiss Past Arc) It consists of five OVAs that were bundled on different volumes. Tomo is afflicted with a curse and the only way to save him is for Nanami to travel back in time.
