Light Novel Review: The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?! Vol. 1

The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?! Vol. 1 ~story by Yuji Yuji, art by Nami Hidaka and translation by Stephanie Liu Princess Alphina has been reliving her life up until her execution. But on the 100th time, she started suddenly hearing all the inner voices of the people and they all love her! Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher The blurb is clearly a reverse harem but my mind keeps lingering back on the line: she discovers that she can hear people’s true feelings—and that everyone secretly loves her. What if it's just like the generic love of everyone surrounding her? As the reality sinks in that it's another miss, things started to turn around more than halfway through. Yes, reverse harem takes a win for the day and no, we're not going to do a rundown of the guys. Now, enjoy the beautiful characters' illustration above and take a guess.  I love her reaction when she hears their love litan...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes Vol. 2

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 2 by Bisu Art by: Yukiko Translated by: Tom Harris After being reincarnated as the otome game villainess, all that Lady Rosemary wants is to spend her life in peace but still with her conscience intact. She basically has to do the following in order to achieve that: 1. prevent a war 2. stop the spread of the disease and 3. obstruct Demon Lord's revival. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the first volume review here.  First order of business: the reverse harem factor. A major character makes an appearance and it's not clear yet if he will join the enamored guys but it's not far-fetched. Based on the volume 3 summary, we'll see the remaining three characters in the next volume and I can't wait.  It's cute when the reverse harem squabble over her with their murderous verbal exchanges. But it's obvious by this book of who'll be the one (See Stages of ...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 1~ favorite light novel for the year!

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 1 by Bisu Art by: Yukiko Translated by: Tom Harris Rosemary Velfalt is reincarnated as a princess rival in the otome game, Welcome to the Hidden World, infamous for its terrible suitors and amazing side characters. She's now breaking event flags to avoid triggering routes. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher.  With all the reincarnated villainess breaking flags in otome game and whatnot, this still offers something fresh and funny. Unlike in other isekai, Rosemary has her memory since infancy and she's not avoiding getting killed. It's in the goodness of her heart to help the main guys skip story routes. Her internal monologues are also amusing with her flair for dramatics and hysterics. B ut for someone insightful, she also suffers the same baka-ness inherent to heroines of being oblivious to all the love interests she's gaining. Its' a reverse harem light novel all rig...

Light Novel Review: The Emperor's Lady-in-Waiting is Wanted As A Bride Vol. 2

The Emperor's Lady-in-Waiting is Wanted As A Bride Vol. 2  Kanata Satsuki (Author), Yoru Ichige (Illustrator), Emily Hemphill (Translator) Lyse goes to the Razanate Kingdom as Sidis' fiancée. However, the imperial court wants Lyse to marry other royalty because of her light. Disclaimer: a review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the review of the first volume .   The two other guys are officially, strictly platonic but a new guy is introduced that's going to be the new source of Sidis' jealousy. I enjoyed the first volume more but I might have not enjoyed the second one as I should have because I was in a reverse harem mindset which is unfair.  I  keep on dreading it's going to end up as not becoming one.  This is the dilemma of reviewing in volumes. Some volumes may not feel as reverse harem as we would have wanted it to be. And it's not marketed as a reverse harem, to begin with. It's all on me. But I still enjoyed the natural feel and un...

Light Novel Review: The Emperor's Lady-in-Waiting is Wanted as a Bride Vol. 1

The Emperor's Lady-in-Waiting is Wanted as a Bride  Vol.1 by Kanata Satsuki (Author), Yoru Ichige (Illustrator), Emily Hemphill (Translator) Lyse Winslette is reincarnated in the kingdom of Olwen. In her past life, she lived as a lady knight in the powerful kingdom of Razanate. But  she can't go back to protect the secret of the Razanete's source of power, the Light of Origin.  One day Emperor Egbert together with  Imperial Duke Alcede, and knight Sidis visit their country. She then finds herself as the emperor's lady-in-waiting. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher.  The blurb did not in any way hinted a reverse harem but what caught my attention was the inside art above. And when I made a few keyboard clicks I found someone calling this reverse harem. In Levels of Reverse Harem it falls under three flowers, the gray area where the heroine is surrounded by beautiful men but the reverse harem is not definite. In the first volume, there a...

Light Novel Review: Mia and The Forbidden Medicine Report Vol. 2

Mia and The Forbidden Medicine Report Vol. 2 by Fumi Yamamoto/ Illustaration by Nitaka/ Translation by Evie Lund  After having won last year's special award, Mia is more desperate than ever to find a cure for her mother. Her group is doing the best they can to help which consists of Felix, a handsome Law student until he opens his mouth...; Henrik, a naturally gifted but ice-cold Medicine student; and Matthias, the shy mage who can kick ass. But they are at a loss on how to proceed in their first step in making medicine. Disclaimer: a review copy was provided by the publisher. It started slow and I feel lost when they feel at a loss too but things turned interesting as we see progress. I appreciate the seamless recaps since it's been too long since I first read the first volume .  This is the first light novel I've read which also sparked my reading streak for light novels. ( Do Hot Gimmick S count?  ) It stands to reason that t his has a special place in my heart. My fe...

Related Review: Pretty Boy Detective Club~ The Dark Star that Shines For You Alone Vol. 1 (Light Novel) humor mixed with deep maturity

Pretty Boy Detective Club~ The Dark Star that Shines For You Alone Vol. 1 ( Bishounen Tanteidan)  written by  NISIOISIN/ art by  Kinako/ translated by Winifred Bird      Mayumi Dojima is searching for the star she saw as a kid. She asks for help from the Pretty Boy Detective Club which consists of Manabu the Aesthete, lover of beauty; Michiru the Epicure, he of the beautiful palate; Hyota the Adonis, he of the beautiful legs; Nagahiro the Orato, he of the beautiful voice and Sosaku the Artiste, creator of beauty. The burning question is: is it a reverse harem or not? There's a room converted into a decadent club room. The club members are beautiful, weird, and one who's filthy rich. There's a gender bender moment. The only thing missing is the twins and the broken vase. It all seems to point to Ouran High School Host Club but it's not.  It's more like Ouran meets Disease Outburst Boy. But using these to describe the story doesn't give it justice....

Light Novel Review: The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Volume 2

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Volume 2 (Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu)- Story & Art by: Yuka Tachibana Yasuyuki Syuri Translation: Julie Goniwich Warning: Spoilers ahead! (I think?)  Check out Volume 1 Review  here.  A digital review copy was provided by the publisher.   The grand magus Yuri has finally awakened to check Sei's abilities. She goes on training with Yuri and also meets the other summoned girl, Aira. It's getting clearer who's the real saint among the two ladies.  When I first saw the news that it will be animated, the general comment I saw is that it's boring.  I don't find it boring but two words that come to mind: too neat. Everything fells perfectly into Sei's favor. The other possible conflict is resolved too quickly. I need something to shake things up. Well, I hope things get harder for our heroine. Haha! I find myself engrossed in reading it like when I'm lost in research. (Ooh very Sei-like too I might add....

Light Novel Review: I Reincarnated as Evil Alice so the Only Thing I'm Courting is Death!

I Reincarnated as Evil Alice so the Only Thing I'm Courting is Death~( Akuyaku Alice ni Tensei Shita node, Koi mo Shigoto mo Houki Shimasu!)  Written by Chii Kurusu Art by: Minato Yaguchi Translated by: Emma Schumacker   While carrying out her secret executioner duties Alice bumps her head and realized she is reincarnated into her favorite otome game which won the Deadliest Game of the Year award. Together with the bad boy butler, Jack; sinful man, Leeds; the Tweedle twins and walking death flag, Earl Knightley.  Disclaimer: A digital review copy of this book was provided by the publisher. She knows the ins and outs of the story but the routes are not moving forward just like it goes in the game.   I felt lost at first too with the story and was wandering aimlessly with Alice. And when she decided her purpose, I was not convinced. It is fast-paced it's just that the premise was different in how the story played out.  But those who are patient are rewar...

Light Novel Review: The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Vol. 1~ looking forward to the anime now

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent (Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu) Story by: Yuka Tachibana Art by: Yasuyuki Syuri  The kingdom is overrun by monsters that they had to resort to a saint summoning ritual. The summoning is successful however they brought in two young ladies instead of one. And one of them is Sei, a twenty-something workaholic who is cast in the sides so she's left on her own devices in this new world. Disclaimer: A digital review copy of this book was provided by the publisher. Sei is brought from modern-day Japan to a medieval world that resembles a game. They have MPS, potions, and quests to level up their stats. But it's not a game or an otome game. The plot is simple but I'm sucked in by the fantasy elements. I was trying not to finish it right away since it's short but I tend to read fast when I'm enjoying the story. The story is a perfect mix of everyday seemingly ordinary life and extraordinary spins from Sei. Although I'm not a bi...

Light Novel Review: Past Life Countess, Present Life Otome Game NPC?!~ sweet, light-hearted read

Past Life Countess, Present Life Otome Game NPC?!~ Story by: Sorahoshi Art by: Yuki Kinami Translated by: Amber Tamosaitis Annerosa Ortegamo is a countess from Lacrofine in her past life. But now, she's Urara Tendou in modern-day Japan. Or so she thought when a crazed girl/heroine tells her she's a non-playable character (NPC) messing with her events inside an otome game. Disclaimer: A digital review copy of this book was provided by the publisher.  The boys from Sparkling Six is introduced right away and your head will be swirling with all the characters I cannot remember. I slept on it and the next day reread it, wrote down in paper, and played match the description to the picture above. But after I'm done that's when I saw Cross World actually has character descriptions. Haha! But it's okay it was fun and I got to internalize who's who. I have this bad habit of not remembering names be it in anime or Asian dramas. I just hastily label the guys according to th...
