Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 5

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 5 by Bisu Art by: Yukiko Rosemary has already averted the war. Check. Stopped the plague. Check. There's one last thing left from the three calamities. Stop the demon lord's revival. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. See review of previous volumes . If possible, I skip reading the summaries for the succeeding volumes. Whenever I start a new one, I ask myself where the story will take me now, and without fail, I always enjoy it. All the summary blurbs I've been mentioning are just the three main points but there's a lot more happening in Rosemary's life. She's making future plans that will be beneficial not only for Nevel but for all humanity. She also has these little and big things going on with the game's suitor candidates and side characters. She finally meets the last remaining character too. (Not quite convinced with the character development of the last tw

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes Vol. 4

Remember the three calamities which Rosemary conveniently made into her three goals like it was New Year's resolutions? 1. Stop the war 2. stop the demon's revival, and 3. stop the plague. And on top of that, she has also meddled with the bad endings of the suitor characters. The characters and the story has deviated from the game as Rosemary know it and she is now in uncharted waters. All of these have accelerated the timeline of the plague which has now started. Will she find the cure in time with the hidden Khuer village? Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out reviews from previous volumes .  Now that we are in the fourth volume, I have gotten used to the pacing and I'm not as impatient as before. The book is now on an important major arc of the story. Rosemary is spreading herself too thin with her too ambitious plans which is basically overhauling the entire game. And lest we forget to add two more of her goals of thwarting an engagement a

Light Novel Review: Mia and The Forbidden Medicine Report Vol. 2

Mia and The Forbidden Medicine Report Vol. 2 by Fumi Yamamoto/ Illustaration by Nitaka/ Translation by Evie Lund  After having won last year's special award, Mia is more desperate than ever to find a cure for her mother. Her group is doing the best they can to help which consists of Felix, a handsome Law student until he opens his mouth...; Henrik, a naturally gifted but ice-cold Medicine student; and Matthias, the shy mage who can kick ass. But they are at a loss on how to proceed in their first step in making medicine. Disclaimer: a review copy was provided by the publisher. It started slow and I feel lost when they feel at a loss too but things turned interesting as we see progress. I appreciate the seamless recaps since it's been too long since I first read the first volume .  This is the first light novel I've read which also sparked my reading streak for light novels. ( Do Hot Gimmick S count?  ) It stands to reason that t his has a special place in my heart. My feel

Reverse Harem or Not a Reverse Harem? Part 3 of 3: Princess Maid (webcomic) 37 chapters - ongoing

Princess Maid/Maid to be a Princess (webcomic/manhua) 37 chapters - ongoing by Koowa Group & Ayu & Heibaigeer Princess Sophia is a spoiled princess of  Vesperang. Then overnight everything will be taken from her and the princess becomes a maid in the neighboring kingdom, Norterang. In Norterang there are five brothers: Alex, the cold eldest prince; Luka, the second prince loyal to Alex only; Cecil, the third prince with unknown motives, and the fourth prince Darcy who is sickly. There's a fifth brother not in the picture, the youngest prince Harry.   The start of the story is reminiscent of how Akatsuki no Yona started but instead of going with Hak she was taken by Su-Won. But that's how far it goes in terms of similarities and it's a different story of its own.  Sophia's strength is her cleverness.  It's not super battling of the wits but I enjoyed how the story banked on that . I  feel for her when she's being bullied but she hangs on and proved herse

Webcomic Review: The Remarried Empress 77 episodes (ongoing)

The Remarried Empress - Written by Alphatart and Art by Sumpul /based on webnovel   Sovieshu asks for a divorce from his empress, Navier, while his concubine looks on smugly. Navier accepts and in return she asks for approval to remarry. Cue in Heinrey who wants to marry Navier. webnovel art I have two methods of consuming media. The first is for review mode where I recap and analyze each chapter or episode. The other one is where I just read or watch mindlessly without having to worry about reviewing it. Since I enjoyed Men of Harem I tried another one of her webnovel turned webtoon, The Remarried Empress. The prologue looks like a love triangle so I read this wantonly and fell into the webtoon scroll of doom. Take note this is now currently at 77 episodes. And halfway through...oh crap...why is this somehow turning into a reverse harem! Normally, I would be happy. I was supposed to reread it to properly review it but I just can't. It's entertaining but if I knew the story wa

Webcomic Review: Men of the Harem 17 episodes (ongoing)

Men of the Harem -   Adapted by Herelee and Art by Yeongbin/based on webnovel by Alphatart The prologue starts with Latrasil as newly- crowned emperor. But instead of choosing a consort, she decided to create a harem of concubines just like what the previous male rulers have done in the past. Will her harem help her get revenge on her old lover and secure her throne? Based on webnovel. This is currently being published on Webtoon. For uniformity, I will refer to all scrolling online comics or manga or manhwa as webcomics but I may slip and use it interchangeably with webtoons.  The reverse harem is seven but officially it's five who signed the papers and all as concubines. There's Klein, the prince of Karisen; Ranamun, eldest son of Duke Atraxil; Guest Rhodes, second son of chancellor of Tharium; Tasir, heir to the richest trading company; and Carlein, King of Mercenaries.  There are dark themes but for the most part, it's fun with no lull moments. Maybe it’s too prematur

Anime Movie Review: Hakuōuki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu

Hakuōki Dai-isshō Kyoto Ranbu ( Hakuouki: Chapter 1 Kyoto Boisterous Dance ) This is the first installment of the two-part movie. I think this was made to entice people who haven't seen the TV series and also to provide a cinematic experience for the loyal fans. It feels the same and different all at the same time. Just imagine a different person narrating the same story. The scenarios are different from what I remembered but the gist is there. And to quote my previous co-worker, it's basically the same bananas. I could say it's still painfully beautiful. The animation. The scoring. The doomed bishonens. There's still a part of me hoping that in this version, they will all live happily ever after. Of course we all know that it won't happen. I can't hardly wait to watch this movie but now that I've seen it, I'm now dreading the second part. We will have to relive all the sad parts all over again. I've read somewhere before that the movie wil

Manga Review: Akatsuki no Yona

Akatsuki no Yona (The Girl Standing in the Blush of Dawn) 14 volumes-ongoing by Mizuho Kusunagi Princess Yona is the heiress to the throne but was forced to run for her life when her father was killed. There's a legend that there's the four guardians who have inherited the powers of the dragons. She seeks the guardians to ask them to lend her assistance.  The story started off in a bang but I find her purpose afterwards poorly developed. It was also bluntly pointed out by one of the guardians. I hope the anime will polish it or give it some finesse. Don't worry that's only thing I didn't liked about because everything else is perfect as it is. It's really funny and it teases you with just tiny doses of sweetness sprinkled all throughout the story in a very calculated manner. This may be too early for me to say and I might change my mind later but my heart is thumping for Soo Woon! Also does anyone get a Li Ren vibe (of Hana Seishou) from Hak? I li

Anime Review: Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku: Kinetograph

Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku: Kinetograph - OVA - 2 episodes Haru works as a maid for the Miyanomori family. The head of the clan is a powerful man in Japan in the Taisho Era. He has six sons from different wives and he will name the heir of whoever makes him the happiest.  At first, I didn't like the angular art and harsh palette. Even the music was weird. But I realized that I find it refreshing it after being used to fluffy and colorful reverse harems. The music has a nostalgic and retro vibe. I also like how they didn't try to squeeze in everything in just two episodes. It ends in a way that it will pique your interest to go buy and play the otome. Still, I wished it was a series instead of OVA. It was hard to choose my favorite bishie in just a short time but yet I find myself looking forward to the three brothers who are always hot-tempered. The anime also has also an unexpected good mix of seriousness and silly randomness. Overall, nothing fancy but not that b

Hakuouki Junrenka

Hakuouki Junrenka by Ruru 1 volume-complete This is an alternate story of the otome 'Hakuouki Shinsegumi Kitan'. A girl in search of her father while living with the Shinsengumis. I have a hunch that the currently airing anime will end up like this super condensed manga. Don't read this for possible major spoilers!
