First Impression: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale anime Eps. 1-3 ~ I will definitely finish this, reverse harem or not!

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Eps. 1-3

Anne is a fifteen-year-old girl who embarked on a journey to become a silver sugar crafter. She purchases a warrior fairy to be her bodyguard for the trip. She promises to free him once they arrive at the destination.

Is it a reverse harem? The anime clearly has a main guy but the marketing is implying a reverse harem. Just watch the promotional video and the second episode's ending credits with the group photo above. But do not be deceived by this strategy. These were already pulled off by The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent and Bibliophile Princess and look where it got us I mean me. So take it with a grain of salt. Four bishonen have appeared so far as of the third episode and it's not clear yet if they will be comrades or competition or what. But nevertheless, this is the kind of fantasy shojo I've been waiting for a long time. Before we proceed there might be some slight spoilers because I can't help myself.

The premise is problematic but later on, Anne acknowledged the fact that she is naive for thinking humans and fairies should be friends, and yet she purchased Challe. There is a confusing master and slave dynamics. It's uncomfortable but funny at the same time. Like killing Myrthil Lil Pod if she orders it. And oh there's an age gap too. Like centuries-old gap. I bet this is not what you expected when you first saw the cute, colorful visuals and dessert imagery concocted from sweet sugar apples. Me neither. There are serious themes and dark undertones which is a contrast to the humor, colorful palettes, and dreamlike watercolor background. I was also expecting Anne to be your perfect, good-girl heroine but her demeanor caught me off guard.

The first three episodes are compelling which I haven't seen in a long time for shojo. The storyline and build-up between the two leads really did it for me. So here's my bold prediction: I will definitely finish this, reverse harem or not! How about you? Share in the comment section below.

All-Time Top Ten Reverse Harem Anime

Hello Wallflowers! I am not going to do a decade in review since I did that already a couple of years ago. but I am loooong overdue for my top 10 anime. I actually made one coincidentally a decade ago but it's a consolidated top 10 of everything from anime, manga and dramas as the titles are fewer back in 2010. I should have done it sooner but it's the nagging feeling that I should finish everything before I can post this. What if there's a hidden gem in my backlog that piled up beginning 2015 (due to pregnancy)? Fast forward to last year and major life events later, I have finished nine anime in eight months. Winter Reverse Harem Dramas 2021 Reviews Part 1: Fling at Convenience Store, No Going Back Romance, Life of Namjoo, 3B No Koibito, Mairunovich & Girl2k

This is the record-breaking number of dramas in one season! Nine reverse harem dramas not including 300 Year-Old Class of 2020 which seems like a promotional show? I can't see myself doing one review at a time. It's going to take me forever so I'll review them in one go. I have yet to finish cdramas: Celestial Authority Academy, In Love With Your Dimples and Unique Lady/Lascivious Lady Season 2. Those are 20+ episodes each. It's also hard to rank them as they have different formats but I've grouped them according to country of origin. Some are super short whilst others are just right. There were some that I loved but the ending left me sad. And there was one or maybe two that are not a reverse harem! Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. Oh back to back Chinese reviews after The Flame's Daughter. Is China going to be booming with reverse harem now?

I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. Let's start with the classification of reverse harem-ness. This is for my sake too if in case I run off course again. 1. Five Flowers - This is literally reverse harem.
