Drama Review: In A Class of Her Own~ latest addition to all-time top 10 reverse harem drama

In A Class of Her Own- 36 episodes

Xue Wenxi makes use of her brilliant mind by copying and writing romance stories. She will do anything to take care of her family and she's doing all this while pretending as a boy. In desperation, she agreed to stand in for scholar's examinations but ended up studying inside the all-boy Yun Shang Academy. Inside the academy, she will become part of the Yun Shang Quartet with smart and honorable Feng Chengjun, money-savvy Yu Lexuan, and problem student Lei Zexin. This is cdrama remake of Sungkyunkwan Scandal kdrama. You can also check out First Impression of episodes 1-3 of IACOHO.

After the third episode, I was telling myself the pacing is really slow but I don't mind. But I spoke too soon. It is unbelievably slow! I've been used to the pacing of 16-episode kdramas where each episode has so much going on. IACOHO has a simpler narrative that you can write what happened for each episode in a sentence or two. Eventually, I accepted it wholeheartedly. That's the only way to enjoy it. For a whole week or so, I lived inside a bubble where time is ticking slowly and all I breathe was IACOHO.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal falls under two flowers (in Levels of Reverse Harem). Only two guys like her but IACOHO is bordering on three flowers. The gray area. And it's all thanks to Yu Lexuan. I don't remember the original character having hallucinations and getting flustered by the heroine. It doesn't make sense though when they plant these lil seeds and it didn't grow into something! The only explanation is that he's like Kyoya in Ouran where he values more their friendship.

The storyline is more or less the same and they have taken liberty with their daily lives. Most of the time, it's hard to follow the political conflict and the key players from the past. It needed more flashback for this. The only difference that is very glaring is the way they jumbled up on how they discovered her identity. If I'm remembering it correctly, in the kdrama Yu Lexuan's character already knew. I was looking forward to Lei Zexin's scenario in Sungkyukwan Scandal since it's one of my favorite scenes and it didn't happen. huhuhu And yeah where are his hiccups?? When they first saw the bed setup I was grinning in anticipation but I didn't really expect on how much crazy bed arrangements will ensue.

Xue Wenxi's always frowning at the start but her character mellowed down the longer she stayed inside the academy. Life was indeed hard for her but the relationships she formed with the trio and other students have given her a happier disposition. It's just so incredulous that she's always behind in either something good or bad. She's one problematic student. In terms of looks, she's too beautiful to pass for a boy like what's new but when she appeared again dressed as a girl I was also enthralled by her like Feng Chengjun.

And for the rest of the quartet. They are all so handsome...is an understatement! Feng Chengjun is so boring in SKK but in the cdrama you are drawn to his naivete. While, Yu Lexuan started off as a minion, you will be eventually won over with his playful, boyish charms. Especially when he was sulking like an adorable kid after being paddled. If they have given him a romance angle I'm sure hell will die with second and third leads syndromes. And lastly, my Lei Zexin. I already knew that I will fall him for him so hard even without seeing much of his character yet in the first impression. And boy I did fell so hard! Even looking at his picture and seeing that smirk for a smile is just crushing my heart! In whatever universe, my heart will always ache for Yoo Ah In/Lei Zexin.

I enjoyed Sungkyunkwan Scandal but was so-so with the ending. With IACOHO, they stretched out the mundane parts and cleverly sets you up to anticipate when the heck are they going to discover her identity. It ends with making you want more because they purposely compressed the good parts. Even it has already run for 36 episodes I didn't want it to end. It felt like it was just starting. It was bittersweet feelings as I got used to binging it for a week. According to TVTime my greatest tv binges with seven episodes are Jessica Jones, The Flame's Daughter (another reverse harem cdrama and wuxia), and now this. Looking back now, I was satisfied with how it ended rather than having it the other way around.

The biggest surprise is it's now in my all-time top 10 reverse harem/flower boy dramas. My only concern then was it could only go either way. 1. I'll hate it or 2 I'll love it. But I didn't expect it to be on my top 10 and the list in my head hasn't been updated in a while. It's far from being a perfect drama and it had some boring parts but it made me feel so giddily happy again. I haven't had these feelings in a looong time for flower boys. I miss this feeling. The last time was with Hwarang but the storyline was disappointing. I am satisfied with the remake of Sungkyunkwan. I don't think it's fair to compare the two as nothing will ever beat experiencing the story for the first time. But I love it the way I have loved most of the remakes of Meteor Garden and Hana Kimi. All-Time Top Ten Reverse Harem Anime

Hello Wallflowers! I am not going to do a decade in review since I did that already a couple of years ago. but I am loooong overdue for my top 10 anime. I actually made one coincidentally a decade ago but it's a consolidated top 10 of everything from anime, manga and dramas as the titles are fewer back in 2010. I should have done it sooner but it's the nagging feeling that I should finish everything before I can post this. What if there's a hidden gem in my backlog that piled up beginning 2015 (due to pregnancy)? Fast forward to last year and major life events later, I have finished nine anime in eight months. It felt like forever. And after that, I found out I could actually start the list even without watching the backlog. LOL But the good thing is I was able to finish it and that has put off a lot of guilt feelings from me. I mean who blogs about reverse harem and never watches past the first episode??? Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. Winter Reverse Harem Dramas 2021 Reviews Part 1: Fling at Convenience Store, No Going Back Romance, Life of Namjoo, 3B No Koibito, Mairunovich & Girl2k

This is the record-breaking number of dramas in one season! Nine reverse harem dramas not including 300 Year-Old Class of 2020 which seems like a promotional show? I can't see myself doing one review at a time. It's going to take me forever so I'll review them in one go. I have yet to finish cdramas: Celestial Authority Academy, In Love With Your Dimples and Unique Lady/Lascivious Lady Season 2. Those are 20+ episodes each. It's also hard to rank them as they have different formats but I've grouped them according to country of origin. Some are super short whilst others are just right. There were some that I loved but the ending left me sad. And there was one or maybe two that are not a reverse harem! These are all paid apps but they all come with free prologues to tempt your wallets. Finally, English games that are accessible! I wish I can just pay it in my local currency rather than credit card. "Pirates in Love" is the first title of Voltage Romance Sims. It's available both in itunes and play. You'll have to pay for each characters and epilogues. I really want to play Eduardo! "My Forged Wedding" is also from Voltage and are also available in itunes and play . The prologue doesn't give away the details as to why exactly they need to fake the wedding but check out the video above to have an idea why.
