Manga Review: Love at First Memory Vol. 1~ The Hype is Real

Love at First Memory by Narumi Hasegaki  Mia Takanashi wakes up from a coma and finds herself with four boyfriends. Before the accident, she had apparently already chosen who she was going to marry. A review copy was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The pacing is fast but not overwhelming. And them as a group? It just works. They have instant chemistry. I love the little bits of humor. Together? They’re an absolute riot. It’s also marketed as a self-aware reverse harem. Is this the part where she goes, “I can see myself falling for them all over again. All four of them.” I’m not going to deep dive into each boyfriend yet, but she might have been dating one, two, or all at the same time. Then again, one of the boys or everyone might have their own agenda. And when she said that line… all four of them… are we getting a Five Flowers manga??? (See Bloom Index/  Levels of Reverse Harem . In Five Flowers, the heroine either chooses everyone or she litera...

Drama Review: I Have Three Boyfriends

I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes  The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma.  This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW,  My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director.   It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt.   The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with  15 minutes runtime per episode.  This is the last of my backlog reviews from a couple of years ago. And what are the odds it would fit perfectly in the  Stages of Reverse Harem . It is meant to be.   Love Reverse Harem Garden? Follo...

Anime Review: Mr. Love Queen's Choice ~ idc I want a season 2 just for the boys

Mr. Love Queen's Choice (Koi to Producer: EVOL×LOVE)- 12 episodes The heroine is a producer of the show, Miracle Finder, which features all things strange. She meets four different men who in one way or another are connected to the show...and her. They will also lead her to the existence of evolvers, humans with powers. My First Impression for the series from episodes 1-3 is good but things started to get boring right after. But every time I get bored, I'll be disarmed by the guys' looks or by their personalities again. They are such a feast to the eyes! But if I really need to pick just one, my favorite is Gavin/Haku. (The first name is the English version while the second is the Japanese version. Correct me if I'm wrong)  Haku looks so refreshingly cool and badass with his earring.  Next are Kiro/Kira and Lucien/Simon just because they're hotter in their 'other' personalities. But if not for that, Kiro would have been last since his scenarios are not at...

Anime Review: Starry Sky

Starry Sky - 26 episodes Tsukiko is the only female student in the formerly all-boy astronomy school, Seigetsu Academy. She meets different boys (and men) who represent each of the constellations. There's no major goal or conflict in the anime. Can I say it's a slice of life? It's practically how the year went by with background stories and flashbacks of how they all meet and how they are related to each other.     I've been posting monthly wallpapers of Starry Sky for years now and all this time I had no idea of who they all are. I watched only three episodes back then and placed it on hold after finding it boring. But before I know it four springs, four summers, four autumns and three winters have passed. This is the most classic example of procrastination. Gomen! But now that I have finally finished watching it. I actually liked it. It's simple yet deep. Some arcs are fun, yet some arcs evoke sadness.  One of the major characteristics of Starry Sky...

Manga Review: Ozmafia

Ozmafia (2 volumes ongoing) - art by Yurino Tsukigase and story by Poni-Pachet Sy and Hobibox Fuka wakes up without memory in a town divided between mafia families. She falls under the protection of the Oz Family.  Even though the title is a dead giveaway that it's going to be a fairy tale and mob, I've always had these preconceived notions that it'll be sweet and wholesome because of the soft colors and art. It's cute alright but there's a sinister feel in their dialogues and situations. But despite that, the omake really cracked me up. The humor is spot on sarcastically funny. The characters doesn't use the obvious names of Dorothy etc. Lion was easy to recognize thanks to his clothing. But it took me longer to figure out who Tin Man was though. His personality is so "charming". And logically whoever is left should be Scarecrow. There's a scene where they pointed out that they're all men in the house, so she has to live in a di...

Anime Review: Amnesia OVA

Amensia OVA - 1 episode In an almost rare instance, all the characters are working closely together to help boost the cafe. It's that world where they can all be cute and silly without any cares to the erm..world. When the opening song started, I just realized how much I missed Amnesia. The anime brings a fun and light-hearted take to the story but the scar of what happened in the series still throbs.

Amnesia

Amnesia - 12 episodes A girl wakes up on August 1 with no memories and she meets a guy claiming to be her boyfriend and a floating fairy that only she can see.  Okay so the girl is a pushover, but I like the idea that we can relate to the character at a first person point of view as we really have no idea where the story is going to. Everything is a clean slate. And it's so weird that they never mentioned her name or did I just miss it? I was caught off guard with the how the reverse harem element was played and the relevance of the date. They've given some tiny hints about it. I also love how the characters shined in their own right and for the first time I equally love all of them in their dark and sometimes twisted ways. If It was me I would be really confused  to which route I would choose. I find the plot and the characterization cleverly written but in the end it was it's own downfall. All the build up and then it abruptly ends. It's good that there...

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac -2010 Naomi forgot 4 years worth of memories when she slipped down the stairs. She meets a boy she has never talked with before in school, a boy who's claims to be her friend and her supposed boyfriend. It's based on a novel of the same name by the American author, Gabrielle Zevin. I love the montage of pictures, retro-ish feel of the movie and the indie-esque soundtrack. Overall, I just couldn't connect to the heroine played by Maki Horikita. (Hana Kimi, Atashinchi no Danchi). Being a person trying to find herself I was expecting her to be more emotional, more inquisitive. But she just stike me as empty and selfish. I was expecting a pop and light movie but instead it was dark with suppressed emotions and unanswered questions. It also stars Yuya Tegoshi (The Wallflower). Also, Maki had a gender bender moment in the movie. lol.
