Manga Review: Monster and Parent Volume 4 (final volume)

Monster and Parent Volume 4 manga story and art by: Ichi Sayo  Kazuomi was attacked. Saika and Izumie tries to save Aki. Can he still be saved? Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher, Jnovel. Check out Vol 1-3 reviews.  This is the final volume and the series' pacing has consistently been spot-on. It is fast-paced since it is only four volumes but it doesn't feel rushed. Even with many elements introduced it wasn't overwhelming. Whenever you enjoy something, you wish there were more in this case you wish something more but you feel satisfied with how it fared. If it was a bit longer it would feel like it was stretched for the sake of just prolonging it. But on second thought, I wished there were more scenes with my favorite characters. Yes, extend it for them. Or make a volume worth of 4-koma dedicated just for them!   The reverse harem count is actually four. And we can safely breathe in relief now that....ah yes Squeak is not part of the harem...

Manga Review: Monster and Parent Vol. 3

Monster and Parent Volume 3 manga story and art by: Ichi Sayo  Saika learns what the godeaters truly are and it's not pretty. Meanwhile, Aki is starting to act strange. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher, Jnovel. Check out the previous reviews for  Vol 1 and 2 .  The story turns serious and dark but in a good way as it nears its climax. E verything's on the table now including the current states of the godlings, Sow and Squeak. Okay, I'm 90% sure that Squeak is not part of the reverse harem since Saika is his mother figure. I swear manga tropes are going to be the death of me. This volume seamlessly tackled multiple flashbacks and in a short time, the characters are effectively given depth. And I just love them all. Squeak is so cute. Saika is so naive. (Not a compliment though) Mitsuri is cute when he's crushing over Izumi and scary at the same time towards Nagumo. This is Kazuomi's volume as indicated in the cover. He's always consistent...

Manga Review: Monster and Parent Vol. 2

Monster and Parent Vol. 2   manga story and art by: Ichi Sayo Saika is adjusting to her new life with her family, friends, and godling. But the threat of godeaters looms and an incident causes her godling, Squeak, to be unhappy with her. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher.  Check out the first volume review .   This volume focuses on Saika's relationships and we gradually see the brothers' character development. The two older brothers Kazuomi and Izumi are still my favorites but I'm leaning toward the oldest. He just cracks me up! But I'm also concerned with where the path of the youngest brother, Aki is going.  I like the premise of Monster and Parent but I still need to be blown away with the story. I'm hoping it happens in the succeeding volumes. The godeaters deal is still vague and they are wishy-washy in handling it but it was addressed near the end. I want to see more of the other godlings and their interaction with each other or with...

Manga Review: Monster and Parent manga Vol.1

Monster and Parent Vol. 1 manga story and art by: Ichi Sayo Saika lost her mom and was adopted by a distant relative. The catch is that she has to raise a godling together with her three new good-looking stepbrothers. A review copy was provided by the publisher, Jnovel.  We have here the quintessential orphan-to-found family/ stepbrothers/ cohabitation situation. Idol raising and other show business-related raising is not something new in reverse harem and shojosei, but behold we now have god-raising. Saika is tasked to become like a parent to a godling who will become a beast god someday.  Even though the mangaka is intentional in writing the reverse harem, it doesn't feel like an all-out fan service manga which is good by the way. And for a first volume, I like the flow of the god-raising story interspersed with the beginnings of the reverse harem element.    It didn't go with the insta-love or love-at-first-sight route and it worked. Saika is struggling with ...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes Vol. 8

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes Vol. 8 Story by Bisu Illustrations by Yukiko Translation by Esther Sun Rosemary's long journey of ticking off all of the seemingly fool's errands has come to an end save for one last hurdle before she can finally get her happy-ever-after. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the previous reviews from volumes 1-7. If this is the final book, I am perfectly content with it. There is no foreshadowing of a possible storyline and we get closures from almost all the characters. But I would have preferred this volume to be a mix of the climax if it's going to be the finale. The conflicts have already been taken care of except for a few hiccups. It's a giant send-off and extended cut of Rosemary and Leon supremacy. But the book does give justice to all the characters and a moment to say their goodbyes to Rose. You can feel their sadness and pining for each POV.   There is much sec...

Light Novel Review: The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?! Vol. 1

The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?! Vol. 1 ~story by Yuji Yuji, art by Nami Hidaka and translation by Stephanie Liu Princess Alphina has been reliving her life up until her execution. But on the 100th time, she started suddenly hearing all the inner voices of the people and they all love her! Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher The blurb is clearly a reverse harem but my mind keeps lingering back on the line: she discovers that she can hear people’s true feelings—and that everyone secretly loves her. What if it's just like the generic love of everyone surrounding her? As the reality sinks in that it's another miss, things started to turn around more than halfway through. Yes, reverse harem takes a win for the day and no, we're not going to do a rundown of the guys. Now, enjoy the beautiful characters' illustration above and take a guess.  I love her reaction when she hears their love litan...

Manga Review: Lady Rose Just Wants to Be a Commoner! Vol. 1

Lady Rose Just Wants to Be a Commoner! Vol. 1 story by Yura Kiyose, art by Kooriame and translation by Esther Sun Felicia Schwarise just wants to be commoner Fil instead of the heroine of the otome game visual novel, Savior of Nations: Lady Rose. But the love interests keep on popping up in her new life. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher  'Tis not a reincarnated villainess story...but a reincarnated heroine which is a twist on the usual otome game reincarnation isekai trope. And a heroine who would rather get the merry bad ending at that. The first volume is an obligatory introduction of the male characters confirming the reverse harem setup. There's the older brother type, the puppy dog archetype, the one with the most dangerous love route. and the one who lives for entertainment. Methinks there's more to the pompous prince than meets the eye but we have yet to meet him.  Now that the reverse harem has been introduced, it makes one to be impatient for...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Vol. 7

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Vol.  7 story by Bisu art by Yukiko The demon lord's seal has been broken and Rosemary caught Leon in another girl's arm. Everything is going downhill for Rose. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the previous reviews  from volumes one to six.  All the characters are affected by the attack on Rose's life. It had serious consequences when you have guys who deeply care for her and are all key figures coincidentally both in the political arena and the background. From prince heir and royal diplomat to mages, spy, and assassin.  When there are too many guys invested in the heroine, especially in the written format and a series at that, you will come to the point that you will hate the heroine because you will be hyperaware of her flaws (just like it was for me in The Ghost Bird series). That's why the multi-POV is critical to make it work and the author has an ...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 6

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 6 Rosemary has successfully recovered the stone containing the demon lord. The Kingdom of Nevel is looking for a way to permanently destroy it by summoning a person from another world. Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Lapter is more desperate than ever to retrieve the stone. And yeah, she has six months to make Leonhart fall in love with her before her father betroths her with the prince from the Kingdom of Vint.  Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the previous reviews .  It usually takes a few chapters to get hooked but it was hard to put it down from the first chapter. Since the story seems to be closing in the final arc, we are now talking about movements and conflicts at a kingdom level.  It was a jolt when they were summoning the shrine maiden. It's so easy to forget that our girl is a villainess...meaning that there will be a heroine from the Hidden World otome...

Light Novel Review: The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 5

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes: Volume 5 by Bisu Art by: Yukiko Rosemary has already averted the war. Check. Stopped the plague. Check. There's one last thing left from the three calamities. Stop the demon lord's revival. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. See review of previous volumes . If possible, I skip reading the summaries for the succeeding volumes. Whenever I start a new one, I ask myself where the story will take me now, and without fail, I always enjoy it. All the summary blurbs I've been mentioning are just the three main points but there's a lot more happening in Rosemary's life. She's making future plans that will be beneficial not only for Nevel but for all humanity. She also has these little and big things going on with the game's suitor candidates and side characters. She finally meets the last remaining character too. (Not quite convinced with the character development of the last tw...
