Manga Review: Monster and Parent Vol. 2

Saika is adjusting to her new life with her family, friends, and godling. But the threat of godeaters looms and an incident causes her godling, Squeak, to be unhappy with her. Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Check out the first volume review.

This volume focuses on Saika's relationships and we gradually see the brothers' character development. The two older brothers Kazuomi and Izumi are still my favorites but I'm leaning toward the oldest. He just cracks me up! But I'm also concerned with where the path of the youngest brother, Aki is going.

I like the premise of Monster and Parent but I still need to be blown away with the story. I'm hoping it happens in the succeeding volumes. The godeaters deal is still vague and they are wishy-washy in handling it but it was addressed near the end. I want to see more of the other godlings and their interaction with each other or with their parents.

But the character-building and the character visuals make up for it. They're simple yet complex and you can feel their sincerity. You think it's the usual shojo stereotype but then it throws you off unpredictably. The possibility of two characters being antagonists is disconcerting. It's trying to mislead us. The official reverse harem count is also ambiguous. There's a possibility, that it may exceed three? The status of the other two is confusing.

For the visuals, the bishonen are always serving looks. Even the butler and supporting characters are all looking fine. Saika just looks cute and beautiful in her default angry or scowling expressions in the extras and chapter illustrations. I don't know how but it just works.

Remember when I was complaining about the last volume's translation. It was actually Izumi's choice of words for example, "ignoramus". But turns out it is fitting with his Izumi's personality and Saika even said to him that he often uses words she's never heard of! Bwahaha! My bad.

For the second volume, nothing fancy but I'm enjoying all the characters and their build-up. Share your thoughts with the manga in the comments.

Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. Let's start with the classification of reverse harem-ness. This is for my sake too if in case I run off course again. 1. Five Flowers - This is literally reverse harem. I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma. This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW, My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director. It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt. The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with 15 minutes runtime per episode. Anime Review: Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA and Kako-Hen

Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA It consists of two 15-minute-ish episodes. The first episode is based on the manga while the second one is an original story. In the first episode, Tomoe is keeping a secret from Nanami, while in the second episode Tomoe and Nanami go on a trip. It's just appetizers so I recommend watching this first before the main course which is Kako Hen. Kamisama Hajimemashita Kako Hen- ( Kamisama Kiss Past Arc) It consists of five OVAs that were bundled on different volumes. Tomo is afflicted with a curse and the only way to save him is for Nanami to travel back in time.
