Romantic Princess




"Gong Zhu Xiao Meo" ("Romantic Princess") based on manga "Romance Godan Katsuyou" ("Four Steps to Romance") by Kazuko Fujita 13 episodes

Xiao Mei is a hardworking girl who dreams of getting rich. Like a fairy tale, the pauper turns into princess when she was discovered as the long-lost granddaughter of the billionaire Emp. But being a heiress is not romantic at all. She has to thwart the schemes of her grandfather and the 4 successors.

I like the opening song "Xin Wo" sang by Fahrenheit (w/ members Cai & Jin) and S.H.E (w/Ella from "Hana Kimi"). I've been singing this and even dancing (!) with made up lyrics for days now like "shining shiny". I also like the montage taken from various scenes of the series. And I have a burning question, what's with the bear mascot in a suit???

The script for the twists are well-written and logical. But the pacing is such a drag that I can only watch 1 episode a day. I wasn't too happy with how it ended like it didn't reach climax.

I prefer animes because you don't judge the actor's or actress' looks or acting. The acting of the younger cast is not consistent with their fake smiles and forced sweetness. But at least Wu Chun's role is more believable than in "Hana Kimi". I found Calvin Chen cute when he doesn't have a smile plastered in his face.

    I think the bear suit is from Xiao Mei's job in the first ep when she works as a flyer distributer. :P

Anime Review: Kiskis! My Boyfriends are Mint Candies!

Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. Oh back to back Chinese reviews after The Flame's Daughter. Is China going to be booming with reverse harem now?

  The video above is Levels of Reverse Harem version 2 (also posted  here ) Reverse Harem titles were very limited when I first started the blog eleven years ago. I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. Let's start with the classification of reverse harem-ness. This is for my sake too if in case I run off course again. 1. Five Flowers - This is literally reverse harem. Drama Review: I Have Three Boyfriends

  I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes  The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma.  This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW,  My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director.   It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt.   The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with  15 minutes runtime per episode.  This is the last of my backlog reviews from a couple of years ago. Anime Review: Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA and Kako-Hen

Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA It consists of two 15-minute-ish episodes. The first episode is based on the manga while the second one is an original story. In the first episode, Tomoe is keeping a secret from Nanami, while in the second episode Tomoe and Nanami go on a trip. It's just appetizers so I recommend watching this first before the main course which is Kako Hen. Kamisama Hajimemashita Kako Hen- ( Kamisama Kiss Past Arc) It consists of five OVAs that were bundled on different volumes. Tomo is afflicted with a curse and the only way to save him is for Nanami to travel back in time.
