Neo Angelique Abyss

I've decided to write episode reviews for "Neo Angelique Abyss" since it's currently airing in Japan (and Singapore). It's 3 weeks overdue because I can't decide if I'll blog every episode or wait for the series to end. Spoilers are inevitable so just highlight the text after the summary. I won't be covering "Vampire Knight" since it's not a reverse harem in the manga but who knows....and someone left a comment that "Special A" isn't a reverse harem either. But I'm watching both. "Neo Angelique" is a spin-off so it doesn't follow the continuity of "Angelique" series.

Phase 1: The Miracle Girl

Angelique is being recruited by Lord Nyx to protect Arcadia from Tanatos. Apparently, she has the power to purify. She also meets another purifier, red-haired Rayne. Then suddenly Tanatos attacks the academy. She used her powers and annihilates the plant-like monsters. She learns that she is the only female purifier and that she is the legendary Queen's egg.

Spoilers:

Only two characters are formally introduced. Jet was mentioned briefly in the flashforward. I'm guessing there are 4 official orb hunters, 4 accessories and remaining 2 are villains. I'm looking forward to fully know the other bishies. There's also two bishies who look like Marcel and Julious and another two who look like from they're from "La Corda d'Oro". Rayne and Nyx looks very "Saiunkoku Monogatari"-ish (same artist and all). Nyx kept on using 'mademoiselle' in lieu of Randy's 'ojou-chan'. My early favorite is Rayne, he's so cute when he's blushing. I expected him to be grumpy or cold since those types usually fall in love with the heroine. I'm wondering how did Anqelique brought Rayne at her room in the first place without anyone noticing? I'm hoping that there would be less cheesy one liners from all the bishies and more action scenes. I love the animation and the revamped modern look of the cast.

Phase 2: Under the Table

She accepts Lord Nyx's offer and moves in at the Silent Sun. They heard that Tanatos has appeared in Farian and they met another purifier, JD. Upon returning at the hills they find JD waiting for them.

The episode title is very clever. There is now an opening credits and you can guess the internal conflicts between the guys (I was about to say guardians..oops!) Nyx also has an infection/transformation spreading on his face and he had some evil grin at some point. Hmm.. Angelique is wearing her lovely chambermaid-like clothes. I love her chracter design from her hair color, ribbons, clothes to shoes and the color combinations used. But her personality is predictable like her namesake. But she has a traumatic incident as a child so we'll see if that will make a difference. Rayne's now starting to becoming the grouchy, see that's the sign! There was a scene that reminded me of "La Corda d'Oro". It was the balcony scene under the moonlight, but it was in reverse. Tsukimori is playing the "Ave Maria" in the balcony while Kahoko is on the grounds. JD is a funny, happy-go-lucky traveller but he looks like a guy who gone AWOL from his troop. And I don't know if it's coincidental that all the guys have talents in cooking.


Phase 3: The Silver Knight

The Imperial Consortium asks for their help to exterminate the Tanatos inside an artifact. Rayne and Angelique travels back to Farian and meets the director, glasses-boy Erenfried. While fighting the Tanatos, they were helped by another Purifying Ability Compatible, silver-haired Hyuga. Unknown to them Jet and an unnamed photographer are also eyeing them.

Four bishies appear: Hyuga, Eren, the papparazzi and Jet. Doesn't Jet resembles Takashi of 'Ouran'? Hyuga's role is a loyal puppy knight like Seiran (SM) and Yorihisa (Harukanaru). I really thought Hyuga was naked and I was thinking like Angelique is so shameless! The tentacled monsters are getting creepy. The orb hunters are complete and all the characters seems to have a secretive past.
