First Impression: Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto Eps 1-3 (Omameda Towako and Her Three Ex-husbands)/Dear Exes

Omameda Towako lives just fine with her daughter. She's also recently appointed as president of a construction company. But her life is still entangled with her three ex-husbands. One she married suddenly, the second for comedy and the last for fantasy...from the words of her father.  The start shows a montage of mishaps that await Omameda. The voiceover reminds me of Kamisama Hajimemata while the dialogues remind me of Niosiosin's  Pretty Boy Detective Club light novel. The storytelling is unusual but fun and rhetorical. The exchanges are rapid at times particularly between the second and third ex-husbands that half the time I don't absorb the wisdom they are trying to impart if there is one. It's a mishmash of random stuff that comes in perfect synchronicity of idiosyncrasies. What do I even mean? The second episode starts with the latest ex-husband's backstory (Nakamura) and then works on its way up to the second ex-husband (Sato) in the third episode. Obviously,...

Winter Reverse Harem Dramas 2021 Reviews Part 1: Fling at Convenience Store, No Going Back Romance, Life of Namjoo, 3B No Koibito, Mairunovich & Girl2k

This is the record-breaking number of dramas in one season! Nine reverse harem dramas not including 300 Year-Old Class of 2020 which seems like a promotional show? I can't see myself doing one review at a time. It's going to take me forever so I'll review them in one go. I have yet to finish cdramas: Celestial Authority Academy, In Love With Your Dimples and Unique Lady/Lascivious Lady Season 2. Those are 20+ episodes each.  It's also hard to rank them as they have different formats but I've grouped them according to country of origin. Some are super short whilst others are just right. There were some that I loved but the ending left me sad. And there was one or maybe two that are not a reverse harem! Reverse harem baiting!!! asdfjisojgjrjgk And there's one drama where the heroine didn't choose anyone! Now, now...not gonna tell which drama was that. *evil laugh* kdramas Coincidentally, all these  dramas are   short and didn't disappoint. Okay, there'...

Movie Review: Boys, Please Kiss Him Instead of Me

Boys, Please Kiss Him Instead of Me (Watashi ga Motete Dousunda Wiki) based on manga /runtime: 1 hour 30 minutes  Kae Serinuma is a fujoshi. But then her favorite character dies causing her to lose weight. The boys she's been shipping with each other in her head... are now turning their attention to her instead.  Since it already had an anime it made sense for the movie not to faithfully follow the manga. It still retained some of the elements and also given a musical spin. I looove the catchy theme song. (see below) But if it was a TV series, now that would be a different story I would expect more. The storyline may be too abrupt for those who haven't watched the anime or read the manga. But from someone who watched the reverse harem anime , it was hard for me to sit down and watch it one go. It still took me days to finish it.  theme song MV It's good that they used two actresses to portray the two versions of Kae. They don't necessarily look similar but the...

First Impressions: 3b no Koibito eps 1- 3 and Life of Namjoo ep 1-4- early favorites for Winter 2021/girls get dumped and a warning, then meet 3 men

3b no Koibito Eps 1-3 Jdrama/Based on Manga   Haruka Kobayashi had a case of runaway groom and haven't found luck with love since then. Her friend warned her to avoid 3B at all cost: bandman, beautician and bartender. And of course, she finds herself living with all three men.  This is my favorite among all the winter reverse harem dramas I've seen so far. And this is the first time I'm watching so many reverse harem all at the same time.  Six. Reverse. Harem. Dramas. @.@ (Including 38-sai from Fall and not including Mairunuvich)   Is the so-called 3B boys really a thing in Japan?  I don't know why but I loved that the guys are dating other women and it's refreshing for all the guys to be unreliable. It's hilarious when Haruka shuts them down like with Haruhi to the Ouran boys. She seems an airhead at the start when she thought the beautician is asking for her number but later on she sees through them. No favorite 3B yet but I'm kinda afraid of the bartende...

Movie Review: Strobe Edge

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge 10 episodes Four guys are tasked to do the impossible -- to turn their landlady's 'horror girl' niece into a lady or they will have to pay the rent. This jdorama is based on the manga of the same name and also known as 'The Wallflower'. Take note I haven't read the manga and have only seen the anime so I'm more of comparing the drama with the anime. Some of the differences of are the addition of Takeru, the boys are in college while Sunako stays at home and headbutting in lieu of nosebleeding. But aside from that the adaptation didn't put the good material into waste. It followed the general idea of the story and created it's own fun seemingly random but well executed storylines. It has more drama and more emphasis with romance and relationships. The first episode was so fast and confusing but the drama made a turnaround with the second episode and I was impressed with almost each episode. The script is well written and ...

Himitsu no Hanazono

"Himitsu no Hanazono" ("The Secret Garden" / "Hanazono's Secret") 11 episodes Tsukiyama is having the worst longest day of her life and to top it all, it's also her 28th birthday. But her monotonous single life will be soon be broken when she meets the four weird brothers who are behind the successful female mangaka, Hanazono. I found no connection at all with the drama at first. The girl is such a pushover and the guys are just too weird. The opening credits feels like it was from the seventies and the song is..again weird. The subtitles are terrible. But as I've watched it I began to enjoy and laugh at HNH. I also liked the fact that it's about mangakas and we get to see how they create mangas. Editors are commonly depicted as people who pressures the artists with deadline. But if we notice in some of mangaka's talk page, their editors advises them with ideas and supports them in research or whatever. The drama was only at t...

Hana Yori Dango and Hana Yori Dango Returns

Hana Yori Dango- 9 episodes based on manga "Hana Yori Dango" (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko. Since I havn't read the manga I can't compare which between the two, "Meteor Garden" or "Hana Yori Dango", made a better adaptation. My inspiration in watching this is that I get to see Ikuta Toma in the sequel. It was dragging at first because I already knew the plot..poor girl getting the red note from F4... yadda yadda...enemies to lovers...but before I knew it I was caught in up in their world again. And I got teary-eyed like three times, when she and then her family have to endure hardships. Hana Yori Dango Returns- 11 episodes Makino now had to prove their love against all odds. The drama is heavier. It was an exhausting, emotional rollercoaster ride that I just want to give them a smack on their heads. If not for Shun Ogiri I wouldn't be able to finish it. But still, it was way better compared to "Meteor Garden II" in...

Hanazakari no Kimitachi e or Hana Kimi

Hanazakari no Kimitachi e or Hana Kimi (translation: For You in Full Blossom)- 12 episodes based on Nakajo Hisaya's manga Ayashi poses as a boy in hopes of convincing her hero into jumping again. "Hana Kimi" is not just a romantic comedy, it is a hilariously, heartwarming series. I'm planning to watch the whole thing again. It's very rare that I rewatch shows or movies. This is my very first jdorama that I've actually followed through until the end. In fact, this one got me into watching Asian soaps again after "Meteor Garden". The actors are very good and I'm smitten over Ikuta Toma (Nakatsu). He's not on the picture though. I like the way they shortened the wait by producing the shortest yet powerful opening that I've ever seen with a nice, upbeat music by Orange Range. Babyyyyyy!
