Remember the three calamities which Rosemary conveniently made into her three goals like it was New Year's resolutions? 1. Stop the war 2. stop the demon's revival, and 3. stop the plague. And on top of that, she has also meddled with the bad endings of the suitor characters. The characters and the story has deviated from the game as Rosemary know it and she is now in uncharted waters. All of these have accelerated the timeline of the plague which has now started. Will she find the cure in time with the hidden Khuer village? Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher. Now that we are in the fourth volume, I have gotten used to the pacing and I'm not as impatient as before. The book is now on an important major arc of the story. Rosemary is spreading herself too thin with her too ambitious plans which is basically overhauling the entire game. And lest we forget to add two more of her goals of thwarting an engagement and possibly raising a romance flag with Leonhart. But her meddling pays off as each character has their own strengths and when combined makes her impossible goals seem reachable. The story reminds me of Game of Thrones where there a different characters in different storylines and faraway places. They all have yet to meet but they are all connected and it is exciting to witness when all their routes finally converge with Rose at the center in the future.
Correction: We're still missing the last side character of the feminist assassin turned waiter. And there are three or four more guys who may or may not have romantic feelings for her. She has yet to meet the other two but they're as good as already part of her reverse harem because come on eventually they will either fall or fan over her. And if the third volume was Klaus', this latest volume is Johan's. It's not mostly about him but this is where we get to know more about him. And now thinking back, the first volume was probably Teo and Lutz's and the second was Michael's. I'm calling it as such in terms of character development and it's tricky since there are also other characters who stood out. It passed by me up until the fourth volume that it was doing the anime equivalent of featuring a bishonen per episode but this time cleverly highlighting certain characters for each volume. Pro tip: Check out the cast of characters' illustrations for each review.
My dilemma now is it will be hard to get used to my next read when I've gotten too comfortable with the writing and translation of this series. It is also remarkable that the author incorporates different styles in each volume. For this one, the vivid fight scenes are impressive (but now that I think about so was the last volume). And we've been inside Rosemary's head for a long time now that I get too hypercritical of her. It is refreshing to see her from the other character's POV and it reminds me why they are drawn to her. Special mention to the bonuses. These types of short stories pack a powerful impact. And there were so many little details that just make me chuckle and left an impression insignificant as it is. Let me know if you picked up this book too. And if not yet, what are you waiting for?
