Yay. Super late Year in Review again and by far the least posts for a year. I'm sorry, guys! m(._.)m But the reverse harem titles are definitely much more compared to the previous year. For 2016, we had more or less confirmed 9 reverse harem animes and with just two based from mangas, Kiss Him, Not me and the second cour of Akagami no Shirayuki-hime and one multimedia project like B-Project. The rest is all based from otomes. That's including sequels from Uta Prince no Sama and Hakuouki. The prevailing reverse harem theme for animes is musical with Uta Prince, B-Project, Scared Rider Xech and Magic Kyun Renaissance.
But unfortunately there are otome adaptations too that went away with reverse harem like Prince of Stride, Norn 9, Marginal 4 and Ozmafia. (I haven't finished Ozmafia yet). But fret not, the tables are turned too with all-boys titles suddenly becoming reverse harem theme with spin-offs/adaptations like Mr. Osomatsu, Sanrio Danshi and Idolish 7.

It's a big year for drama too, we have total of 10. There's two sageuk and three webdramas including an otome type of drama, Click Your Heart. Korean tourism and hallyu have also noticed the appeal of reverse harem by gathering the most popular flower boys in kdramas for the webdrama, First Seven Kisses.
It's still a continuation of multimedia and stageplay adaptations. For plays, we have Meiji Tokyo Renka, Prince of Stride, Kuro Bara Alice and Ensemble Stars. And of course another, La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky, Hakuouki and Diabolik Lovers.
Another trend that is fast catching up is otome apps getting anime adaptations with Ensemble Stars, Cocktail Prince,Yume Oukoku to Nemureru 100-nin no Ouji-samaa and Ikemen Sengoku.
The year was also mad crazy with localizations for otome: Bad Apple Wars, Period Cube ~Torikago no Amadeus~, Collar × Malice and Code Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ fan disc, Hakuouki: Sweet School Life. Princess Arthur, Shall We Date? Princess Arthur, Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds, Nightshade, The Men of Yoshiwara: Ohgiya and Taisho Alice.

Meanwhile, reverse harem authors banded together to bring a collection of reverse harem stories. Falling For Them. (Note to self. Must buy and find time to read). Follow the Facebook group, for recommendations, events and freebies/giveaways. It's a thriving world on its own.
Special mention to Korean otome app, Mystic Messenger. You know it became really popular when the non-reverse harem people who you follow are playing it too. I tried it but I haven't picked it up again.
I am really sad that I am unable to review mangas. There are a lot of covers and wallpapers and recommendations from you all that's making me excited. Heck! I'm much sadder that I can't watch or read or blog at all especially at the time that reverse harem is exponentially growing in all directions. I hope you'll be more patient with me. I will still try my very best to catch up. Here's to a very fruitful and meaningful year! Cheers!
I think she meant that these otome games are reverse harem but when they had their anime adaptations, they lost that reverse harem genre.
ReplyDeleteOzmafia felt more like mini skitz, Norn 9 was like action romance, Prince of Stride was more action packed and Marginal 4 was like the life of the singers.
There was a lack of romance focussing on a female lead in these anime adaptations.
