Reverse Harem Garden

Xue Wenxi makes use of her brilliant mind by copying and writing romance stories. She will do anything to take care of her family and she's doing all this while pretending as a boy. In desperation, she agreed to stand in for scholar's examinations but ended up studying inside the all-boy Yun Shang Academy. Inside the academy, she will become part of the Yun Shang Quartet. This is a cdrama remake of Sungkyunkwan Scandal kdrama.  First things first. Sungkyunkwan Scandal is one of my all-time favorite reverse harem kdrama. But with the  Levels of Reverse Harem , it's now under two flowers (only 2 guys are interested in her). I was excited at first when I first saw the remake news but then I remembered how disappointed I was with the last two wuxia  I've seen so this time I tried to be indifferent. 

No Ae Jung is a single mom and a film producer. She finds herself waist-deep in debt and her only way to pay it back is to produce a movie. And on top of that, these four men will make her life more complicated.  Okay, I said I was hooked from episode 1 but it was exactly in the last part of the first episode. This drama makes use of cliffhangers effectively. It's just so incredulous though that she will meet again the guys from her past all at the same time. Actually, not all of them. It reminds me of kinda reverse harem drama, Reply 1994 , where it keeps going to the present as the drama is set in 1994 and teases you of who she got married to in the present. (One of the guys in WIL is also in Reply 1994) In Was it Love, we get flashbacks from 14 years ago of who might be the father of her daughter. Oh My Baby- 16 episodes Jang Ha-ri is single, workaholic...and her biological clock to have a baby is ticking. She may have potential baby daddies: someone she hated, someone she grew up with and someone too young for her.  My first impression was off to a great start. (See " First Impression: Oh My Baby kdrama ~ Eps 1-4 ~ An Early Favorite for 2020 reverse harem dramas "). I was quick to judge that it will be in the same boat of other reverse harem dramas, Three Dads and a Mom and Happy 300 Days . And oh boy I was totally wrong. The end goal was to have a baby but it's not as simple as that. The very first hurdle is the father and she's not dating anyone. The story is about going the most realistic but non-conformist way or commit herself to a risky relationship and lose her small window of being a mom. And the complication doesn't stop there.

Now that A3! Spring and Summer have sealed its non-reverse harem deal, it's the perfect time to bring back my penchant for posting in threes for related reviews. We could say this is the second part of  Related Review: Female Managers and All-boy Idol Groups: Idolish 7, B-Project and Top Management . But of course A3 has a female director and all-boy actors while Ensemble Stars! has a producer instead of a manager. So maybe we can call it now 'female-xxx and all-boy xxx-raising'. It doesn't make sense but you get the idea, right? Anyway, they fall under one flower in Levels of Reverse Harem . They are usually joshimuke which is media targeted for the female and has no romance routes. In the anime, one or more bishonen may show interest towards the female managers/producer/director whatever however the girls are in supporting roles only. The main feature is really them boys.
