xxx- Over Flowers

Yoko Kamio's "Hana Yori Dango" manga has captured the world that it had spawned Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean live action dramas. It was also copied by Chinese and now it will soon-to-be adapted into an American drama too. 

She might have not expected that it will also start the foursome trend in Korean dramas (you can check out out dramabeans for more info) and variations of the monicker with totally different storylines.





Boys Over Flowers - The one that started it all in Korea.




A Gentleman's Dignity - Amidst the foursome and flower boys trend this drama upgraded their own and marketed the foursome as F40. Yup, flower boys in their forties.




Grandpa Over Flowers -  It doesn't end there. The title gets an extra, extra upgrade. Move over F4 and F40, it's the Grandpa Over Flowers. It's a reality show of grandpas traveling in different countries.



Noonas Over Flowers - After the success of, Grandpa Over Flowers, the genders are reversed and we get the spin-off of Noonas Over Flowers. The women are in their forties and sixties. Not necessarily grandmas.

So what's next? F4 years old? F14? I'm guessing I will be updating this post in the future.

I didn't see this coming but the Grandpa Over Flowers and Noona Over Flowers will be remade into Chinese versions! From dramabeans.

    There is another reverse harem drama. This one has Park Shin Hye as the female lead and the male lead from City Hunter in it. It takes about 6 episodes to show that its a harem, but it definitely is.

    The U.S. Remake version (2013-2014) "BOYS BEFORE FRIENDS" was the worst! "It was a really bad remake of 'Boys Over Flowers'. It is cringe worthy because of the bad acting, lame lines, weird cinematography, and production Hell! Which caused 2 main actors to quit and several production team members and actors to create a very horrible video explaining the whole ordeal." [WATCH AT OWN RISK!!!]

Anime Review: Kiskis! My Boyfriends are Mint Candies!

Kiskis! My Boyfriend are Mint Candies!- 4 episodes Tang Tang meet guys who each represent a flavor of mint candies. It has a catchy, cute opening. At first there's a different feel on it which I can't pinpoint. And then I realized that they are talking in Chinese! This is my first completed Chinese animation. Well since it was way too easy to finish it. It's 5-minute ONA for 4 episodes. I think this premiered last June 4. But the first Chinese animation I watched is still currently airing (unconfirmed reverse harem), Phantom in the Twilight, which is a collaboration between Japan and China. Oh back to back Chinese reviews after The Flame's Daughter. Is China going to be booming with reverse harem now?

  The video above is Levels of Reverse Harem version 2 (also posted  here ) Reverse Harem titles were very limited when I first started the blog eleven years ago. I was flexible with many titles where it's only one or two guys interested in the female protagonist and other gray areas. But we are now at a point where I can be strict with labeling reverse harem. Let's start with the classification of reverse harem-ness. This is for my sake too if in case I run off course again. 1. Five Flowers - This is literally reverse harem. The heroine has a harem of her own in her inner chamber. And we only have one example for this, manga and drama, Ooku. UPDATE: Please check STAGES OF REVERSE HAREM for more examples.

Drama Review: I Have Three Boyfriends

  I Have Three Boyfriends kdrama- 10 episodes  The story starts with Ra Hee going on a date after another with her three boyfriends. She's frantically trying not to get caught. The drama will unravel how she got herself into this dilemma.  This is the first reverse harem I've seen about cheating female main character. Certainly, this is bound to happen in reverse harem. BTW,  My favorite boyfriend is the domineering director.   It was not believable at first but it got me hooked. The story is milking the coincidences to the hilt.   The ending is unexpected and here all along I was under the impression that it's going to be open-ended. Sorry, to keep this review short as it's a short drama with  15 minutes runtime per episode.  This is the last of my backlog reviews from a couple of years ago. Anime Review: Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA and Kako-Hen

Kamisama Hajimemashita OVA It consists of two 15-minute-ish episodes. The first episode is based on the manga while the second one is an original story. In the first episode, Tomoe is keeping a secret from Nanami, while in the second episode Tomoe and Nanami go on a trip. It's just appetizers so I recommend watching this first before the main course which is Kako Hen. Kamisama Hajimemashita Kako Hen- ( Kamisama Kiss Past Arc) It consists of five OVAs that were bundled on different volumes. Tomo is afflicted with a curse and the only way to save him is for Nanami to travel back in time.
