Defining Reverse Harem Through Different Lenses: Reverse Harem Garden's Bloom Index, Joseimuke, and Why Choose

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how reverse harem means something a little different to each of us. Reverse harem has always been a wild garden. It’s a trope with no strict rules, open to endless spins and reinterpretations. At one point, someone even got upset with me because our definitions didn’t line up. (Re: Earl & Fairy on Myanimelist Forum).

That’s exactly why I created Levels of Reverse Harem classification, which I’ll now be calling The Bloom Index.

It’s also fascinating to see how different perspectives add nuance to our understanding of this trope.

In joseimuke (media aimed at women, especially games), you’ll find subcategories like otome games, bishonen with no romance, and boys’ love. Otome games overlap with five flowers and four flowers, while bishonen with no romance overlaps with zero to two flowers. Check out uguucageoflove post for a deeper dive.

However, within the otome game community, reverse harem refers to a route or ending instead of the game as a whole.

In Why Choose novels, it only counts as a true reverse harem if the heroine keeps all her partners. In Bloom Index terms, that would fall squarely under Five Flowers. But as you can see, things can get complicated. Tracilovelot explores the differences between reverse harem fiction, ménage fiction, and polyamorous fiction in more detail.

There may never be a single universal definition, and that's okay. It may continue to evolve as the genre itself grows. Year in Review 2017

from Kenka Bancho Otome And just like that it's time for Year in Review again. While doing the review, I realized it was a slow year for reverse harem shows and movies. We only had four animes: Kenka Bancho Otome: Girl Beats Boys, Code Realize, Ikemen Sengoku and Dance with Devils: Fortuna movie, which are all otome game adaptations. The rest of the Winter 2018 anime shows will be airing next year: Idolish 7 Dame X Prince, Yuuwaku Office Lover 2 and Gekijouban Tokimeki Restaurant ☆☆☆ MIRACLE 6. For dramas, we have Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu jdrama, Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu movie and Five which are manga adaptations. I'm not sure yet with Seizei Ganbare Mahou Shoujo Kurumi and Good Morning Call Our Campus Days. And oh yeah we have one American TV show, She's Gotta Have it.

The Reincarnated Princess Spends Another Day Skipping Story Routes Vol. 8 Story by Bisu Illustrations by Yukiko Translation by Esther Sun Rosemary's long journey of ticking off all of the seemingly fool's errands has come to an end save for one last hurdle before she can finally get her happy-ever-after. There is no foreshadowing of a possible storyline and we get closures from almost all the characters. But I would have preferred this volume to be a mix of the climax if it's going to be the finale. The conflicts have already been taken care of except for a few hiccups. It's a giant send-off and extended cut of Rosemary and Leon supremacy. Hello Wallflowers! I am not going to do a decade in review since I did that already a couple of years ago. but I am loooong overdue for my top 10 anime. I actually made one coincidentally a decade ago but it's a consolidated top 10 of everything from anime, manga and dramas as the titles are fewer back in 2010. I should have done it sooner but it's the nagging feeling that I should finish everything before I can post this. What if there's a hidden gem in my backlog that piled up beginning 2015 (due to pregnancy)? Fast forward to last year and major life events later, I have finished nine anime in eight months. Winter Reverse Harem Dramas 2021 Reviews Part 1: Fling at Convenience Store, No Going Back Romance, Life of Namjoo, 3B No Koibito, Mairunovich & Girl2k

This is the record-breaking number of dramas in one season! Nine reverse harem dramas not including 300 Year-Old Class of 2020 which seems like a promotional show? I can't see myself doing one review at a time. It's going to take me forever so I'll review them in one go. I have yet to finish cdramas: Celestial Authority Academy, In Love With Your Dimples and Unique Lady/Lascivious Lady Season 2. Those are 20+ episodes each. It's also hard to rank them as they have different formats but I've grouped them according to country of origin. Some are super short whilst others are just right. There were some that I loved but the ending left me sad. And there was one or maybe two that are not a reverse harem!
