Light Novel Review: I'd Rather Have a Cat than a Harem! Reincarnated into the World of an Otome Game as a Cat-loving Villainess Vol.2 (final volume)
Amy is busy with school, friends, and healing animals. In her free time, she plays with her cat and replies to Prince Edward's letters. But she can't help but also worry about the otome game storyline especially now that the characters are all grown-up and looking like the exact replicas of their game counterparts. Let's get the cat out of the bag that this turned out not to be a reverse harem. This falls under two flowers (only one or two are interested in the heroine) under Levels of Reverse Harem. And just like how the cheerful Amy lulls everyone around her into false security, I got sucked into it as well, and because of cats too. I mean, what can go wrong with cats?! It is also already more than halfway through when I realized it is the final installment because all the loose ends are suspiciously being tied up. But I know we needed closure if this ends up as reverse harem or not.
The story deconstructed the otome game-reincarnation-villainess-trope but it completely disregarded all the cliches and did its own thing about cats. Amy did try to change her destiny in the first volume and that was it. Her weight is also a non-issue too at this point. This is the most wholesome isekai, I have read so far. This trope usually deals with avoiding getting killed or stopping wars or outbreaks or whatnot. I was also expecting something grand...like a cat-astrophic conflict! I promise that's the last pun! But I did enjoy how it continued on with Amy's blissful, cat-indulgent life. We have gotten used to grand, dark twists but in some other worlds, it would just be cats and you just have to be contented with that.
It's a cute, light-hearted read suitable for middle-grade readers and of course the young at heart, especially cat lovers! If you're looking for something relaxing like this light novel, I recommend The Saint Magic Power is Omnipotent anime. For cat-obsessed non-heroine who also finds herself in an otome game set-up, I recommend reverse harem anime, Romantic Killer. How did you find the light novel? Let me know in the comments.
